After birth, the connection between mother and child ceases, as he begins to breathe and feed himself. Most often, in maternity hospitals, they simply apply a bandage, and every day they are treated with a solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide. This is not enough for proper healing.

If severe bleeding is observed at the time of cutting the umbilical cord, a pressure bandage is applied. In order not to worry about the possibility of infection, you must clearly know all the stages of healing:

  • the first 3-5 days, the presence of a nodule;
  • drying out after 5 days;
  • bleeds slightly within 1-3 weeks;
  • complete healing is in progress at 4 weeks.

In the first 7 days, parents undertake to take care of the umbilical wound. It must be greased with brilliant green after bathing. Do not remove the resulting crust on the wound to avoid infection. You should bathe separately in warm water for a month and monitor the condition of the umbilical wound.

If the child's immunity is weakened, the healing process may take 1 to 2 weeks longer. With insufficient care, wound decay is possible. To prevent a foreign body from entering the child's body, the help of a doctor will be required. Do not delay with this, so that the small wound does not harm the health of the baby. The specialist will prescribe a treatment that will contribute to the speedy recovery of the newborn.
