During pregnancy, a woman undergoes a serious restructuring of her body, sometimes her taste preferences change in an amazing way. In the family, real battles often flare up between the older generation and the "unreasonable" youth over the usefulness of this or that product for the expectant mother.
It's better to forget about soda water
Carbonated water is one of the most controversial foods. So drink or not drink? The answer is unequivocal - it is better to forget about this drink, even if it is one of your favorites, during pregnancy. There are several reasons for this.
Carbon dioxide, which is contained in the drink, concentrates gases in the intestines, because of this, flatulence develops, which leads to heartburn and severe abdominal pain.
For the correct development of the fetus, for the formation of its bone and cardiovascular system, calcium is needed. The fetus actively uses calcium, getting it from the mother's body. After all, it is not for nothing that during the period of bearing a child, some women have problems with their teeth, aches in their joints, and carbonated water simply flushes calcium out of the body. This is fraught with the fact that the child already in the womb begins to develop osteoporosis - fragility of bones.
Sugary carbonated drinks contain many preservatives, colors, flavor enhancers, sweeteners, and acids. Manufacturers do this to improve the taste and appearance of the product. However, all of these supplements are harmful to the stomach lining.
In addition, carbonated drinks are very high in calories, the expectant mother may have problems with being overweight.
Carbonated water can cause swelling because it contains chlorine compounds that trap fluid in the body, which can increase blood pressure.
Almost all soda contains the well-known E211 - sodium benzonate. It already does not have the best effect on the liver, and by reacting with acid, it turns into a dangerous carcinogen. Think about whether it is worth risking the health of an unborn child?
What about mineral water?
Carbonated mineral water, although not as tasty and bright, has the same negative effect on the body of a pregnant woman. So, you will have to give up on it. Why do you need unnecessary problems in this difficult period of life?
However, it is possible and even necessary to drink table non-carbonated mineral water, especially rich in magnesium, potassium and sodium. Read the label carefully before purchasing a drink.
It is advisable to abstain from carbonated drinks and during the period of breastfeeding.
Sometimes pregnant women have an irresistible desire to eat or drink something "forbidden". Of course, in small doses it is unlikely to cause great harm, but even in these exceptional cases one cannot follow the popular proverb: "If you can't, but you really want to, then you can." Therefore, if you really want to so that you have no strength to resist the desire, release all the gas from the drink and drink a little.
Always remember that there are two of you now, that you are responsible for the unborn baby. What is harmful to you is doubly harmful to him. For the sake of the child's health, you can somewhat tame your desires!
