Or a fairy tale that he sent a valuable gift to his victim (jewelry, an expensive gadget, etc.). She just needs to pay for the shipping. At the same time, instead of a gift, there is unnecessary garbage in the parcel.
Some of them work very professionally: before getting to know each other, they study the profile of the victim, her interests and hobbies. In his profile he uploads real photos, willingly gives his phone number and communicates. Goes out on dates trying to build trust. And then he asks for money for medicine for his sick mother, to pay debts and so on.
