Diaper rash in young children is a fairly common occurrence. Baby's skin is very delicate, so the greenhouse effect created by moisture and heat is irritating. Diagnosing diaper rash is easy. They are characterized by skin redness, soreness and itching.
The main reason for the appearance of diaper rash is improper care of the baby's skin: too long being in an overflowing diaper, irregular washing, etc. There are 3 stages of diaper rash. Initially, the skin takes on a reddish tint, which does not bother the baby. Then the redness becomes brighter, microcracks appear. In the most advanced cases, the cracks begin to get wet, and pus may appear. The baby feels a burning sensation and itching.
Prevention of diaper rash
Change your baby's diaper as it fills up. Before putting on a clean one, wash your baby with running water. Use soap only when dirt is difficult to clean. Using it too often can dry out baby skin.
Wipe any wrinkles on your baby's skin during daily bathing. Herbal decoctions (chamomile, string, calendula) can be added to the water once or twice a week. Before and after bathing, give the baby air baths for 10-15 minutes, giving him the opportunity to rest from the diaper.
To avoid allergic reactions, wash your child's clothes with a special baby powder. In the first months of your baby's life, dress him in cotton clothes with seams on the outside. For the prevention of diaper rash, you can use children's cosmetics: lotion and body milk, diaper cream and powder.
Diaper rash treatment
The mild stage of diaper rash does not require any treatment. At this stage, it is enough to change diapers and diapers in a timely manner, ventilate the baby's skin, and monitor the development of the situation.
In the middle stage, lubricate the affected areas with creams or ointments containing panthenol and lanolin, for example, Bepanten, D-panthenol, Drapolene, Purelan. These drugs are approved for the care of newborn babies. It is not recommended to use powder, as it collects into lumps, which further irritate damaged skin. Baby oil is also best set aside as it creates a film on the skin, preventing it from breathing.
If diaper rash occurs, add herbal teas such as yarrow, calendula, chamomile or sage to your bathing water daily. Oak bark also has a good effect.
In severe cases, when the diaper rash is wet or accompanied by the release of pus, the doctor deals with the treatment. It consists in the use of bactericidal drugs. Self-administration of such medications can harm the health of the baby.
