With the help of a children's vest, you can complement the outfit, and at the same time protect the child from the cold. Most children like to wear this piece of clothing also because it is very comfortable and does not hinder movement.

Step 1
Before you start sewing a vest for a child, make a choice: in combination with what and where this piece of clothing will be worn. A universal option is a thick cotton fabric or jersey (any other is possible). Create a pattern. To do this, you can use an old baby shirt that your child will not wear. You can also draw a pattern yourself or buy a special magazine for sewing children's clothes, where patterns for children of different ages have already been created.
Step 2
If you have made a choice in favor of an old unnecessary shirt, open it, leaving only the shelves and the back. Cut to the desired length, then shape the edges of the shelves in a semicircular shape.
Step 3
Fold the fabric neatly with the inside out. Place the pattern pieces on the fabric and secure the pieces in that position. Use needles or pins to secure.
Step 4
Cut out the details of the vest, leaving 4-5 cm on the sides (about 2 cm for the seams, and 2 cm for the "stock"; this way the vest will not hinder the child's movements). Overcast the edges of all parts by hand or using a sewing machine. Then sew the shoulders of the shelves and back. This must be done from the wrong side. Also - on the wrong side - sew the side seams.
Step 5
Using an iron, smooth out all the joints of the vest parts. To trim the armholes, use a bias tape in a contrasting color to the main fabric. Sew it around the edges of the vest (start and end in the middle of the back). Sew in a detachable snake or sew on buttons on one side, sew overhead loops from the inlay.
Step 6
Cut out patch pockets, trim them with a bias tape, and decorate with appliqués, embroidery or fringe. Sew on patch pockets if required. Depending on the style of the vest, the pockets can be of a different color or tone. The children's vest is ready.
