Many young mothers ask themselves the question: should they shave their baby's hair, and why is it done? Often this unpleasant procedure is recommended by older relatives in the family, operating on the assumption that the baby's hair will grow better. But in fact, neither scissors nor a hair clipper can change the structure of a child's hair.
When a child is born, there is still no real hair on his head. He can be born completely bald, or his head will be covered with the finest fluff. This fluff will last on the child's head up to about six months, more often up to 4 months. Then all the first hair will gradually fall out and be replaced with real, stronger and thicker hair. However, the hair replacement process can be delayed, then a one-year-old child can show off the same light fluff instead of a good head of hair.
Should we follow tradition?
Traditionally, it is believed that the child at this time needs to be shaved off, so that after that the hair will grow back to normal. Perhaps for some children who have not yet completely got rid of their first hairs, such a procedure will be beneficial. But this is rather an exception to the rule. No changes in the structure of the hair from a haircut can occur. Even after this procedure, the child's hair can be thin and sparse for a long time. Or, conversely, thick and long ones can grow already in a year. The whole point here is not in a timely haircut, but in the genes and heredity of the parents.
In some families, this tradition causes considerable controversy and even scandals, when young mothers do not want to give their one-year-old children into the hands of hairdressers, and grandmothers accuse them of violating traditions. Where did the confidence of mothers and grandmothers come from that it is simply necessary to cut a child's hair baldly? It's all about the ancient Christian custom: earlier in families a one-year-old child was cut off a lock of hair, wrapped in a scarf, which was placed in the red corner next to the icons. Such a bundle was supposed to protect the child from harm. When a girl got married or a guy went to war, this bundle of hair was given to them as a talisman for good luck and happiness.
Don't harm your baby
This old custom has nothing to do with the current state of affairs. Therefore, the baby's hair can simply be trimmed so that it does not get into the eyes and looks more neat, but does not cut it bald. In summer, such a procedure will cause smiles and ridicule of passers-by and other children, making both the child and the mother feel uncomfortable, and in winter it will deprive the child of natural heating. In addition, you can easily injure or scare your baby with a typewriter. This haircut has no positive aspects.
It is recommended to shave a child baldly only in case of emergency: when he has lice, and it is impossible to remove them in other ways, when chewing gum or burdock gets into the child's hair. Such extreme cases are rare for young children, so don't worry, let your child's hair grow back naturally.
