A common problem in the life of babies of the first year is a runny nose. Timely treatment with effective means avoids complications and negative consequences.
Causes of the appearance of a runny nose in children
The structure of the nasal passages in one-year-old children differs from the adult nose not only in size, but also in patency, therefore, congestion occurs even with a slight swelling of the mucous membrane. Of course, as a result, appetite decreases, sleep is disturbed, irritability increases, etc.
The main reasons for the appearance of a cold:
- colds;
- viral infections against the background of reduced immunity and hypothermia.
When a virus or harmful bacteria enters the body, the nasal mucosa is affected, as a result of which the body temperature can rise, lymph nodes increase, and diseases of the upper respiratory tract develop.
Effective treatment for rhinitis
A runny nose is a protective reaction of the body, and the formation of mucus is aimed at neutralizing the virus and further spreading the infection. In order to prevent the nasal mucosa from drying out, it is advisable to regularly ventilate the room in which the one-year-old baby is located, to provide an abundant drink. It is preferable to give the child berry juice, herbal decoction, tea, dried fruit compote, clean water.
Many medications are contraindicated for young children, so it is recommended to rinse the nasal passages with saline or plain water with the addition of a small amount of sea salt. Can be replaced with a ready-made spray (for example, "Aquamaris", "Aqualor"), which are quite convenient to use for children.
After rinsing the nose, it is necessary to treat the mucous membrane with an oil solution of vitamins A and E. Its action is based on the removal of inflammation, the destruction of harmful microorganisms and the formation of a protective layer against drying out.
To improve patency and facilitate breathing, vasoconstrictor drops of an appropriate dosage are used. The most common is 0.01% Nazivin.
The final stage of treatment, when the mucus becomes thicker, is to treat the nose with a saline solution. Dissolve in a glass of water ½ tsp. table salt, moisten the prepared cotton flagellum and thoroughly rub the mucous membrane of each nostril.
To strengthen the immune system, it is recommended to diversify the menu with fresh vegetables and fruits, take a complex of vitamins and trace elements, gradually temper the child to reduce the risk of recurrence of a cold and other unpleasant symptoms.
