You probably remember the exciting genetics puzzles that you had to solve at school. You were asked to calculate the probability of inherited hair and eye color. And everything was simple if mom and dad had the same eye color. But if one of them is blond, and the second is brunette, and with brown eyes, then the result becomes unpredictable.

Step 1
It is believed that the dominant genes are those with dark eyes and hair. So, a pair of "blonde with blue eyes - brunette with brown" can easily have a baby with brown eyes. And more often than not, this is exactly what happens. But there are exceptions when in such cases the blue eye color wins, and the child inherits blonde hair.
Step 2
If we compare the blue pigment with green, then in this pair, blue is dominant. Although it is possible that the baby may have green eyes. In terms of percentage, the difference is not that great.
Step 3
Even though your baby is born with blue eyes, they can easily turn brown during the first year of life. First, because at least one of the parents has brown eyes. Secondly, even if both parents have blue eyes, and the child is born with brown eyes, these are most likely the dominant genes of grandfathers (grandmothers) or great-grandmothers (great-grandfathers). In this case, one should not be particularly perplexed when trying to figure out this phenomenon.
Step 4
Sometimes the eye color can be mixed. This phenomenon is called heterochromia. When recessive and dominant genes are mixed, sometimes these results can be obtained. The recessive signs include just blonde hair and eyes, and everything dark is dominant.
