Any pregnant woman during the period of bearing a child undergoes an ultrasound scan. This is a mandatory procedure that is performed to diagnose the condition of the fetus. Today, both conventional ultrasound and 3D are used.
Characteristics of the procedure
The peculiarity of 3D fetal ultrasound is that it is three-dimensional. At the same time, the resulting image of the fetus is very clear and bright. On it you can see almost all parts of the child's body: arms, legs, face, back.
It is advisable to carry out 3D ultrasound of the fetus from the 24th week of pregnancy, that is, during the period when the main organs and systems have already been formed. Indications for 3D ultrasound may include: diagnostics of congenital fetal anomalies, multiple pregnancy, the presence of complications during pregnancy in parents, determination of the position of the fetus and its size, and others.
This procedure is no different from a simple ultrasound scan, but the result is more informative for both the doctor and the parents. The technology is also based on the ability of tissues to reflect ultrasonic waves, resulting in an image.
With the help of 3D ultrasound, you can count the number of fingers in a child, see his face, smile, accurately determine gender and size. To determine the sex, it is recommended to conduct this study for a period of 14-16 weeks. With ordinary ultrasound, it is very difficult to determine such congenital defects as facial deformities, underdevelopment of the spinal cord, and others.
Influence on the fetus
Like a simple ultrasound scan, the 3D procedure is safe not only for the mother, but also for the unborn child, but only if it is carried out strictly according to medical indications, that is, not often. Unlike X-ray, ultrasound does not have the effect of radiation on the body.
Scientists have proven the negative effect of ultrasound on animal embryos. For humans, there is no scientific confirmation of such data. But, nevertheless, with very frequent ultrasound, the following side effects may occur: intrauterine fetal growth retardation, increased uterine tone, fetal tachycardia, or a slight increase in its body temperature.
It should be noted that the very effect of ultrasound is only 1% of the total duration of the entire procedure, this ensures minimal contact of the mother and fetus with ultrasound waves.
Three times ultrasound is considered optimal. It should be carried out on schedule at 10-12, 20-22 and 30-32 weeks of pregnancy. Based on this, we can conclude that 3D ultrasound is a modern diagnostic method in pregnant women, which is very informative and accessible for any expectant mother.
