Serious troubles, or even more the grief associated with irreparable loss, can be difficult to survive without the help of loved ones. The usual phrases "I'm sorry" and "I sympathize with you" in such cases are not always appropriate: it is better to try to find a special approach in order to really comfort the girl and support her.
Instructions
Step 1
Listen to the girl. This is the first thing to do. Do not interrupt her, do not get annoyed, do not offer solutions that seem ideal to you until you hear the whole story to the end. Sometimes it becomes easier for a woman when she speaks out, cries, pronounces aloud the words that tormented her. If the girl does not mind, you can maintain tactile contact: pat on the head, hold the hand, hug. This should be done easily and unobtrusively, simply indicating your presence and willingness to support.
Step 2
Ask how you can help, tell about specific actions that can solve at least some of the difficulties. Another option is to simply offer your help in case you need it later. For example, you can say, "If you need something, contact me right away, and I will do everything in my power to support you." It is important to let the girl know that you care about her problem and that you will not leave her alone with difficulties.
Step 3
Consider the heart of the problem when choosing words of comfort. If the girl is seriously upset about the layoff, explain that finding a new job is not as difficult as it seems, tell some positive stories on this topic. When it comes to breaking up with a man, advise the woman to take care of herself and be distracted, invite her for a walk or to the movies, choose an option for a pleasant pastime that will help distract her from problems.
Step 4
When it comes to the death of a loved one, try to get the girl to comfort others herself. Gently explain to her that those around them, who have also faced dire loss, need her help and support. The shared grief becomes a little weaker, and the understanding that others also need comfort inspires strength. Offer to help organize a funeral or other problems that inevitably arise in such cases. By removing some of the worries from the girl, you can comfort her a little.
