Until recently, your baby did not know how to hold a spoon in his hands, but now he confidently wields it, although sometimes not for its intended purpose. To teach a child to eat on their own, parents will need a lot of patience and diligence, as well as the baby himself.
Instructions
Step 1
The spoon should be introduced to the child as soon as he learns to hold it. At the same time, one spoon should be given to the baby, and the second mother feeds the child. Buy a special baby spoon for your baby, their choice is now huge. But do not overdo it with the details, because the purpose of the spoon is not at all in the game, therefore, it must be applied accordingly.
Step 2
For the same reason, do not let your child play while eating. If he has a desire to feed a doll or bear, let him use toy plates and spoons for this purpose after he eats himself. The kid must learn that they do not play or read while eating. Allowing your child to play around at the table will make it harder to teach him to eat on his own.
Step 3
Of course, at first, crumbs on the walls, floor and clothes cannot be avoided. But remember that this will not always be the case, and the learning process is simply not possible without such small troubles. Therefore, get your baby an apron that will protect the little eater's clothes. Do not scold your child for passing a spoonful of porridge past your mouth. Raising your voice a couple of times, you will discourage the baby from eating on his own, later it is much more difficult to accustom such a child to a spoon.
Step 4
When teaching your baby to eat from a spoon, comment on your every action. Explain to your child what you put on the spoon and why, while helping him scoop food from the plate and bring it to his mouth. Praise for every good move. Don't laugh at how your baby eats. After all, next time he will again repeat the smearing of food on the table and clothes, which so amused mom and dad.
Step 5
Usually, a baby's acquaintance with a spoon begins as soon as he turns one year old. However, the final skill of independent food consumption is formed in children by the age of two.
