Babies grow very quickly, and there comes a time when mothers think about complementary foods. The best option in this case is to cook vegetable puree for your baby. You can buy it ready-made, but many parents, not trusting the quality of purchased products, make mashed potatoes on their own.
Instructions
Step 1
It is better to start feeding puree with the so-called neutral vegetables: squash, cauliflower or potatoes. Then you can add carrots, broccoli, green peas, etc.
Step 2
Place vegetables in cold water for 3-4 hours. Soaking in this way removes some of the nitrates in the food.
Step 3
Any vegetable that is part of the puree must be thoroughly washed with running water. If it is heavily soiled, use a brush so that, for example, on cauliflower, all inflorescences are clean. Peel potatoes and zucchini. If the products are from last year, and not fresh (for example, you are cooking in spring), peel the skin slightly thicker than usual. Place frozen vegetables in boiling water without defrosting.
Step 4
You can cook food using a double boiler. With this method of processing, vegetables retain the maximum amount of nutrients and do not lose color.
Step 5
If you do not have a steamer, you can simply steam it, for example, using a colander or special nozzles in the form of a griddle for a saucepan. Cooking directly in water deprives vegetables of most of the vitamins, but the broth can be used further.
Step 6
In order to cook vegetable puree for your baby, you need to grind all the products. It is convenient to use a blender. In its absence, a fine grater or even a fork is suitable, with which you can knead already boiled vegetables. After chopping, boil the puree for about 5 minutes. Whisk again in a blender until smooth.
Step 7
Add the vegetable broth to the rather thick mashed potatoes that you get. Some mothers add expressed breast milk.
Step 8
Add half a teaspoon of olive oil to the mixture to improve digestion. Do not add salt, sugar, or other flavorings to the puree.
