Not every pregnancy is problem-free. Some women need hormonal support to carry a baby safely. In such cases, doctors prescribe drugs containing progesterone, in particular, "Utrozhestan". Its correct reception helps to strengthen the developing fetus in the uterus and maintain the desired pregnancy.
Instructions
Step 1
Most often during pregnancy, "Utrozhestan" is prescribed with the threat of interruption, for the prevention of miscarriage in women whose previous pregnancies have ended unsuccessfully, as well as with in vitro fertilization.
Step 2
"Utrozhestan" is prescribed by a gynecologist in a certain dosage and according to medical indications, which are established during the examination of the patient. Do not do this on your own without consulting a specialist: the drug assumes a long-term intake for several weeks, strict adherence to discipline and does not allow abrupt cancellation.
Step 3
The approximate daily dose of progesterone with a threat of miscarriage is 200-400 mg, and in special cases it can be increased to 600 mg. When the woman's condition stabilizes, the doctor may reduce the dosage or leave it unchanged for the entire period of treatment. According to the instructions, "Utrozhestan" can be taken up to 20 weeks of pregnancy, but depending on the state of the placenta, gynecologists sometimes increase the duration of use to 36 weeks. In other words, in matters of taking the drug, strictly follow the instructions of your doctor.
Step 4
"Utrozhestan" can be taken orally or by vaginal administration, but during pregnancy the second method is preferable, since in this way progesterone is absorbed faster than through the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, oral administration is contraindicated in women with impaired liver function.
Step 5
Reception "Utrozhestan" is as follows: - wash your hands thoroughly; - insert one or several capsules into the vagina to a depth of 5-8 cm; - lie down for 20-30 minutes so that the drug dissolves in the body, works and does not flow out ahead of time.
Step 6
For the successful use of "Utrozhestan", observe several conditions: - always take the drug at the same time, depending on the doctor's prescription: once a day - before bedtime, twice - in the morning and evening, three times - at 6.00, 14.00 and 22.00; - so as not to damage the vaginal mucosa, cut your nails short or wear a fingertip when inserting the capsules; - since the capsules after a while flow out of the vagina, use panty liners to protect your underwear.
Step 7
Coordinate the cancellation of "Utrozhestan" with your obstetrician-gynecologist. The usual regimen is a gradual dose reduction of 100 mg per week. For example, if the daily dose up to 20 weeks of pregnancy was 400 mg, then with a gradual cancellation at the 21st week, take 300 mg per day, from the 22nd - 200 mg, and from the 23rd - 100 mg for 7 days, then stop taking the capsules.
