Today it is not uncommon for guys and adult men to hear the word "chick" in the address of a girl. As it turned out, this word was found several centuries ago and also referred to girls. What is the meaning of men in this word today?

How it all began

In Russia, before playing a wedding, the future groom or bride must have undergone a matchmaking rite.

Usually they came to the hut where the girl lived, the boy's parents, or the young man himself. The process itself contained a lot of different nuances and beliefs, which were unquestioningly carried out by the matchmakers for a successful final of the "deal".

One of these beliefs was expressed in the following: the matchmaker had to start a conversation on an allegedly abstract topic, hinting at the purpose of his visit. Very often a young guy and a girl were compared to animals. One of these comparisons just contained the analogy of a girl with a chick.

The matchmaker told a story that he was looking for a heifer who allegedly got lost and stuck to the house of the girl's parents. And then he asked: does the chick want to move to his house. This meant that the bride-to-be was asked to be married off.

More on the analogy

"Chick" and "chick" are mainly called young girls. This does not apply to older women.

It is hard to believe that such an analogy could have survived to modern days. But since they talk about "heifers" almost everywhere, and not a single person falls into a stupor upon hearing this word, it means that the analogy really had a solid foundation.

A heifer is literally a young cow that has not yet had calves. The udder that has not yet sagged is also attributed here, which, of course, personifies the elastic chest of a young girl.

Today "chick" is far from a compliment to a girl. Since the word has taken on a mostly negative connotation, other signs of a heifer come to mind: a stupid young cow constantly chewing on something.

What do men want?

We can endlessly talk about what meaning men put in the definition of "heifers" in relation to girls.

First, men, especially young guys, are understandable. Calling girls heifers, they try to assert themselves. Thus, the guy is trying to show his disdain and independence. This is especially important in adolescence.

In modern Russian, there are neologisms based on the figurative meaning of the word "heifer". Usually, neologisms arise from the emergence of subcultures. For example, "emotelka", "gopotelka", etc.

In any case, when a man calls a girl "chick", it means that he has no serious intentions towards her. Or simply unsuccessfully trying to hide these intentions.

But it is worth distinguishing when a man is joking, and when he is simply indifferent. If a guy, laughing, affectionately calls you "his chick", of course, you should not be offended. If it is too unpleasant for you to listen to this, then immediately inform him about it and do not accumulate resentment inside. Lack of agreement leads to quarrels, and quarrels lead to discord in the relationship.
