Most children at an early age do not know how to drink from a cup. There is an exit! We choose the right cup for the baby: so that it only benefits, and does not create inconvenience.
There are 4 types of sippy cups:
1. Drinking cup with a straw - a drinking cup with a lid and a straw through which the baby sucks the drink. For children from 9 months.
2. A sippy cup - thanks to a special valve, such a cup can be shaken, thrown on the floor, gnawed at the edges and rolled on the table - the liquid will not spill. For children over 6 months old.
3. Thermo siphons - they are great for traveling or walking, because allow you to keep the temperature of the liquid for a long time.
4. Teaching Cup - Can be used as a teat bottle or change the top cup and used as a classic sippy cup. For babies up to 6 months.
For everyone who is "under" 6 months old, a bottle will do. But we will talk about this separately.
What to look for when choosing a cup:
1. Material
Most of the drinking cups are made of plastic. Make sure that the sippy cup does not contain substances such as bisphenol-A, phthalates and polyvilyl chloride, melamine. It is better to choose transparent plastic: this way it will be easier for you to monitor the liquid level.
2. Drinking cup spout
Manufacturers offer various models of sippy cups and spouts also come in different materials, however, the most successful is the silicone spout: it resembles a baby's bottle and it will be more familiar and convenient to drink from it. In addition, you cannot get hurt with a silicone spout, unlike an uncomfortable plastic one (we tried various options)
3. Volume
Children's handles are not yet as strong as it sometimes seems to mothers and fathers, therefore choose a small-volume drinking cup corresponding to the child's age (see information on the product). the baby will often throw the cup on the floor, and the desire to use it will begin to disappear at the toddler.
4. Handles
It is much more convenient to use a sippy cup with handles, because grasping reflex in toddlers has not died out yet. By grabbing the handles, the baby will quickly learn how to use the cup on his own.
5. Safety valve
A safety valve is required to take the sippy with you. In addition, the child does not get used to new things very quickly. While learning to use the sippy cup, the safety valve will help the baby stay dry.
6. Edges of the drinking cup
The task of the sippy cup is to prepare the child and teach him to drink from the mug. This means that the sippy cup should be convenient to use as a mug - the edges should be smooth, not injure the child, have a comfortable shape so that liquid does not spill (when the lid with a spout is removed from the sippy cup, it is more convenient to leave the handles on the sippy cup for the first time).
I wish you and your little ones a good rest this summer and enjoy the warm weather!
And lastly - a couple of photographs of floating babies, proving that water and a child are inseparable from birth, because every child immediately after birth is able to reflexively hold his breath under water and swim. Here's an interesting fact =) But you can learn to swim only under the supervision of experienced instructors and in a special children's pool!
