Doctors strongly advise pregnant women to refrain from dyeing their hair. After all, the chemical components of persistent paints can harm the health and development of the baby. But what about natural color products? Is it permissible to use henna during pregnancy?

Henna for hair during pregnancy

Henna belongs to natural paints. It has a gentle effect on the hair, while, unlike other natural dye products, it is relatively persistent. If doctors most often reasonably prohibit the use of chemical coloring agents for hair during pregnancy, especially in the first weeks, then this prohibition does not apply to henna.

However, it should be noted that we are talking specifically about henna powder, and not about paints based on it. The fact is that even Asian coloring agents, which contain a natural component, contain some chemical additives. These additives will not affect the woman's well-being, but they can still cause some harm to the health and development of the baby in the womb. Therefore, if you really want to dye your curls during pregnancy, then it is better to give preference to exclusively natural products.

Henna for hair coloring has a number of positive aspects:

  1. this tool is inexpensive;
  2. henna is quite persistent, it can be used by girls with different types and different hair colors, but keep in mind that the darker the natural shade, the darker the henna will give the result;
  3. the powder does not contain any third-party additives that could penetrate the woman's body and reach the child;
  4. henna not only colors, but also heals the hair; after using the product, the curls become stronger and healthier; however, in the first trimester, the remedy must still be applied carefully, during this period the hair of a pregnant woman is weakened and prone to loss; additional exposure can aggravate the situation;
  5. henna perfectly fights dandruff, relieves itching of the head;
  6. it is permissible to make special restorative hair masks from henna; it is better to use a colorless powder for this.

Among the disadvantages of using henna, the following reasons stand out:

  • henna "eats" into the hair, and does not cover it with a colored film; because of this, it is very slowly and difficult to wash out, although the color may gradually become dull; however, you should not very actively dye your hair with henna during pregnancy, it is not recommended to resort to a natural remedy more often than once every one and a half months;
  • after applying henna, chemical artificial dyes cannot be used until the henna is washed off the curls or the hair is cut;
  • being a natural remedy, coloring herbal powder can cause an allergic reaction;
  • henna requires a long time to keep it on the hair, it may not always be convenient and comfortable;
  • during pregnancy, it is impossible to predict exactly what shade the hair coloring agent will give;
  • this natural dye is not very convenient for applying on long or curly curls; after dyeing, you need to rinse your hair very thoroughly.

Henna Hair Coloring Tips

The base color of henna is red, copper. However, for girls whose curls are naturally light, this coloring agent can give a rich red tone. To diversify the color palette and get additional shades, henna can be diluted and mixed with other natural ingredients. For example, basma and henna are a classic combination that will allow you to get a dark brown or even jet black color on your hair. If you add turmeric and lemon juice to the herbal powder, your hair will get a pretty golden hue after dyeing. Henna can be diluted not only with water, but also with tea or herbal infusion. If you use a decoction of chamomile, then the color will turn out to be golden-red. By using hibiscus tea in combination with henna, you can achieve bright ruby notes on your hair.

If you are going to use henna for staining, a pregnant girl must definitely conduct an allergy test: apply a little product on the back of the wrist and watch for irritation, itching, etc. Fearing for what shade will turn out on the hair, you can first dye only one strand or apply the product to the ends.

It is recommended to interact with henna with gloves. During staining, care must be taken that the diluted powder does not get on the skin, otherwise the traces will be very difficult to wash off.

To dilute henna, do not use too much water or herbal decoction. Otherwise, the consistency of the coloring agent will be very liquid, henna will flow from the hair, it will be impossible to sit with it even for half an hour. It is recommended to dilute the powder with hot boiling water; it is necessary to apply the product to the hair quickly so that it does not cool down.

It is necessary to keep the henna for at least half an hour, but for a rich color it will be necessary to walk with this remedy on the hair for 1, 5-2, 5 hours. It is recommended to wrap the head first with a film, then wrap it up with a towel. This thermal effect will produce a brighter shade.

Despite the fact that henna does not have a very strong and pungent smell, its aroma can cause discomfort in a pregnant woman. If dizziness, nausea occur, it becomes stuffy and foul from the smell, the staining procedure must be urgently interrupted and go out into the fresh air.
