According to biologists, watermelon is an incredibly healthy and tasty type of berry. But is it equally useful for adults and children? Pediatricians have their own opinion about the parental question, at what age can a child be given a watermelon.

Instructions

Step 1

Small pieces of watermelon can be given to the baby from one year old. For the first time, you can give your child a taste of watermelon juice squeezed out of the pulp of the berry through cheesecloth. Or mix it with your child's usual apple juice. Give watermelon juice a day from 1-2 tablespoons, increasing this volume over time.

Step 2

Do not insist that the child eat a piece of watermelon if it does not seem tasty to him, and the child stubbornly refuses a new product in the diet.

Step 3

Make sure that the berry is nitrate-free before giving the watermelon to your child. The presence of dangerous enzymes in watermelon is indicated by the too red color of the pulp, white seeds among the black, yellow streaks among the pink or red pulp.

Step 4

Buy watermelon from people who, you know, raised it in their country house. Alternatively, you can buy a watermelon on the market, but after mid-August, since too early watermelons are usually saturated with nitrates and chemical fertilizers. But do not take the watermelon sold near the road, as the exhaust fumes from cars have the ability to penetrate the rind of the watermelon.

Step 5

Before treating your child with watermelon, thoroughly rinse the berries in warm water with a brush. Give the child the pulp from the middle of the berry, since most of the nitrates (if any) in the watermelon is present under the skin up to 3 cm deep.

Step 6

For children from one to two years old, give watermelon pulp no more than 50 g. Children from two to three years old can be given 100 g of watermelon per day. And for those kids who are over three years old - 150 g per day.

Step 7

Check if there are any seeds in the pieces of watermelon pulp that you offer your child. The kid easily swallows them, not noticing, and can choke on them.
