Is it possible to get pregnant with twins on purpose?
Of course, there is no 100% way to get pregnant with twins. But it is possible to increase your chances of this.
First, let's figure out how twins appear. Identical monochorionic twins are born when one fertilized egg divides into two in the uterus, resulting in twins that are very similar, almost identical. The mechanism of such a division is not yet fully known to scientists. The second option for the development of twins is the fertilization of several eggs at once, in which case the children may not be alike at all, since two eggs in the uterus develop in parallel.
The easiest and most effective way to conceive twins is to get pregnant during the so-called "withdrawal syndrome", that is, first take hormonal contraception, and then stop and conceive a child in the first month after the contraception is canceled. So many women accidentally become pregnant with two children at once, this is due to the fact that hormonal contraception suppresses the activity of the eggs, and when a woman stops taking it, the activity of the eggs increases many times, and against the background of this activity, multiple pregnancy develops.
The next way to get pregnant with twins is IVF (in vitro fertilization), when several eggs are implanted into the uterus at once. Most often, only one develops, but it also happens that several survive.
The rest of the methods have very little chance of success. It is said that a special diet that includes lean meats, game, poultry, fish, fatty cheeses and fruits can help get pregnant with twins. You can also drink folic acid, try to conceive twins in the summer, when reproductive abilities are higher, or become pregnant while breastfeeding, during lactation the chances of "double success" are greater.
