Lactase deficiency is a decrease in the activity of a special intestinal enzyme lactase, which is responsible for the complete breakdown of milk sugar (lactose). In this case, undigested lactose stimulates the flow of fluid into the intestinal lumen, which, under the influence of local microflora, causes the accumulation of gases. The process is accompanied by frequent watery and foamy stools, bloating, pain and rumbling. These symptoms usually appear immediately after a baby is fed.

Step 1
The treatment of congenital and acquired (a temporary condition that occurs after intestinal infections) lactase deficiency is based on a decrease in the proportion of lactose consumed in the diet, up to its exclusion. In order to compensate for this enzyme and preserve natural feeding in infants, the doctor prescribes its dosage form (Lactase Baby, Lactazar and others). With this disease, it is important to keep breastfeeding as long as possible.
Step 2
Complementary foods must be introduced at the same time as the rest of the children. However, the first foods a baby tries should be lactose-free. These can be vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, pumpkin) and fruits (apple, pear). You should limit the consumption of foods containing milk and sugar as much as possible. Porridge and vegetable purees should be cooked in water or use special lactose-free mixtures.
Step 3
Breastfeeding in this condition is gradually canceled. After a year, the child can be carefully injected with specialized low-lactose dairy and fermented milk products in doses that do not cause manifestations of lactase deficiency in the baby.
