Some women, whose menstruation did not start on time, wonder: is it pregnancy or is it just a delay? The most reasonable way out in this situation is to visit a doctor or take a pregnancy test, but this is not always possible. You can also determine pregnancy at home by basal temperature.
Instructions
Step 1
Often, basal temperature is measured not with the goal of finding out exactly about your "position" early and without the help of doctors, but as an additional means of checking the fertility of the hormonal background. In this case, it is necessary to start measuring the temperature from the first day of the menstrual cycle and record all the data in a simple graph consisting of an X and Y scale.
Step 2
To determine pregnancy by basal temperature, start your tests no earlier than 1-2 days before the expected day of the onset of menstruation. The menstrual cycle consists of 2 phases: before ovulation and after ovulation. Their duration is approximately the same. If ovulation has occurred, then the second phase is characterized by an increased basal temperature (slightly more than 37 degrees). Closer to the onset of menstruation, it begins to decrease, and if this does not happen, it is likely that pregnancy is occurring.
Step 3
Basal temperature can be measured not only in the rectum, but also in the mouth or vagina, but not under the arm. A mercury thermometer must be kept in the mouth for at least 5 minutes, and 3 minutes are enough in the vagina or rectum.
Step 4
Several factors can affect the accuracy of basal body temperature measurement. For example, the temperature will be higher if you are sick, after drinking alcoholic beverages, after intercourse, due to stress, or after taking certain medications. If this is excluded, then the result obtained can be considered reliable.
Step 5
Measure the basal temperature in the morning at the same time, between 6 and 8 o'clock, without getting out of bed and without making sudden movements. In addition, the quality of sleep also affects the accuracy of temperature determination, which should not be interrupted for several hours before its determination. It is better to prepare the thermometer (shake it) in advance in the evening. All readings must be recorded so as not to be forgotten.
