Step 1
Modern nipples are available in latex and silicone. There are three main forms. A cherry nipple with a ball at the end has the same shape on all sides and is convenient because you can put it in your mouth as you like. Drop-shaped nipples are slightly flattened on both sides. They resemble a mother's nipple, which also collapses during feeding. Even if the baby does not take the nipple correctly, it will always take the correct position in the mouth. Orthodontic nipples are slightly flattened and sloped on one side. This shape is believed to be beneficial for the proper development of the baby's jaw. However, it is necessary at all times to ensure that the nipple is in the baby's mouth with the cut part down.
Step 2
The pacifier consists of three main parts: the nipple itself, the mouthpiece and the ring. The mouthpiece is the base of the pacifier to which the nipple is attached. They come in different shapes: round and oval, in the form of a heart or a butterfly. The mouthpiece should have a spout cutout and sufficient ventilation holes to allow air and excess saliva to pass through. The ring is fixed to the lip and has a standard shape.

Latex nipples are loved by many babies. They are softer and easier to suck. They are made from a natural material - rubber. The latex teat is yellowish-beige in color and has a characteristic odor. This type of nipple is, alas, short-lived. It is recommended to change them every 2-4 weeks, regardless of how often the nipple is used and in what condition it is. Latex cracks easily. Microbes settle in the microcracks, and the nipple itself turns brown. To avoid possible consequences for the baby, the latex pacifier must be disposed of before such changes appear. The walls of the nipple should not stick together. If this happens, then the inner surface of the nipple is dirty and it's time to throw it away. Check the teat for integrity daily. Of course, due to its elasticity, a latex nipple is harder to bite through than a silicone one, but if any damage is detected, it must be changed. Latex nipples from frequent sterilization become loose, and dirt easily adheres to them. Keep the teat in the case and rinse before each use.
Step 4
Silicone nipples are stiffer, and babies love them less. But due to their elasticity, they are more durable. In addition, silicone is tasteless and odorless. It does not darken and does not collapse from sterilization in boiling water. Silicone nipples do not cause allergies, unlike latex ones. However, they are easier to bite through, so it is necessary to check the integrity of the nipple as often as possible. Even a small piece of silicone can be fatal to a child, as it can cause suffocation if inhaled. The silicone teat should be replaced every 4-5 weeks, even if it is completely intact.
Step 5
Poor attachment of the rubber part to the mouthpiece can also be a reason for replacing the nipple. If possible, check the quality of the nipple before purchasing. The ring should also be tightly fitted and made of thick plastic. If there are any defects, the nipple must be replaced.
