Instructions

Step 1

The first thing to think about when starting to make an envelope blanket is at what time of the year the baby will first go outside from the maternity hospital. If in summer, then the blanket should not be too warm, otherwise the baby can catch pneumonia from temperature changes, if in autumn or spring, then it is best to sew the envelope from fleece and padding polyester, if in winter, then you cannot do without a thick layer of padding polyester or fluff, like interlayer material. In addition, for the inner surface of the blanket, it is necessary to choose a thin natural fabric that breathes and does not cause irritation - cotton, chintz, coarse calico. You can tie the blanket with ribbons in the old fashioned way, but they slip and fall apart, so modern envelopes, as a rule, are equipped with some kind of fastener. It can be an elastic band, ribbons - ties, hooks or Velcro.

Step 2

The blanket can be sewn in a square or round shape. If you chose a square, cut it out with a side of at least 90 centimeters, especially if the envelope is winter. Cut out the squares one by one from all of them in a layer and fold them together. Expand the square with an acute angle upward, there will be the child's head. Here you need to measure 30 centimeters from the corner, draw a line and cut the corner. Sew this edge to the intersection with the old sides of the square and insert a dress elastic. Thus, the envelope will fit well on the baby's head, protecting it from the cold or wind.

Step 3

Layers are best quilted with a typewriter. Then sew the edge. It can be decorated with lace. The bottom edge will cover the legs, tummy and chest of the baby. And the sidewalls will not only cover the child, but also fix his position in the envelope. On the edge of each side corner, you need to sew a fastener - tape, Velcro or hook. Velcro is the most convenient, as it allows you to swaddle your baby the fastest. Further from the left edge, it is necessary to retreat about twenty centimeters and sew on a paired fastener from the inside, and on the right corner of the envelope, the same fastener, only from the outside for a good fixation of the child.

In the same way, a round envelope is sewn, it is even somewhat more convenient for swaddling a baby, so you don't have to think about where and how to tuck the protruding corners.
