To create your family tree, search for family ties, or simply when searching for a deceased relative, you need to find a burial site, which may already be several decades old. Currently, there are several options for finding the burial of the deceased.
Instructions
Step 1
Search for posthumous documents. To locate a person's burial site using a posthumous report such as a death certificate, you must at least know the person's full name, the approximate year of death, and the place (state, city) of death.
Step 2
Search through church records. To locate a person's burial place in the church death registration, you must know the name of the person and the name of the church where the ceremony was performed, or the name of the priest who performed the ritual and is recorded in the church death registration.
Step 3
To find a person's burial site in an obituary, it is necessary to know the approximate date of death, the person's full name at the time of death, and the state (city) where the death occurred (where the obituary was probably published).
Step 4
Military reports. To find a person's burial site in a war record, you must know the veteran's name, the department of his service such as the army, navy or marine corps, the state, and the date of hostilities during which the veteran served. If the period of service was after 1916, you should also know the dates of commencement of service and graduation, military identification number, social security number, and date of birth.
Step 5
Family stories and biographies. They can list burial sites. To obtain a copy of a family history or biography, you must know the person's full name and the approximate region (state or county) in which the person may have lived.
Step 6
Cemeteries and cemetery records. To find a burial site in the cemetery records, you must know the person's name, date of death and where they last lived, and where they died in order to determine their possible burial area.
