Darkening of the gums in a small child

Why do gums darken in a child?
Most often, the question of why the baby's gums could darken is asked by parents who have children whose age is up to one and a half years. The thing is that darkening of the gums can be associated with the eruption of the first milk teeth. A small hematoma forms in the gum hood, which goes away by itself after a tooth erupts in this place. Treatment is not required, but it will not hurt to go to the dentist for an examination.

If the child has already erupted all of the teeth, and there is a dark bruise on the gum, this may indicate the presence of diseases of the oral cavity. Most likely, it is either gingivitis or stomatitis. Such diseases are the result of poor oral hygiene.
Gingivitis is characterized by redness or darkening of the gums, swelling, and bleeding. Stomatitis has the same symptoms as gingivitis, only it has some differences - purulent ulcers can form in the oral cavity, a strong unpleasant odor appears from the mouth.
Both diseases require a dental examination. Treatment takes place with antiseptic drugs, which caress the oral cavity several times a day. In addition, the doctor may prescribe special antiviral drugs for oral administration. As a rule, with proper and timely treatment, the symptoms disappear in 2-3 days. In severe cases, treatment can take up to 10 days.
