Thin and delicate baby skin is more sensitive to adverse weather conditions than adult skin. In order that winter walks do not cause discomfort to the child, the baby's skin needs special care.

Unlike the skin of an adult, baby's skin contains more water, and the sebaceous glands work less intensely, which is why a protective fatty film does not form on the surface of the skin. That is why cold, wind and dry air are much more destructive for the delicate skin of a baby than for an adult. Nevertheless, the sensitivity of babies to frost and wind is not a reason to give up useful winter walks, which temper the child, strengthen the immune system, and help to adapt to new climatic conditions.

How to make your walk safe and comfortable?

In order to prevent dryness, flaking or frostbite, you should carefully monitor the duration of the walk. If the air temperature drops below -15 ° C, the time for walking with the child should be reduced to 20-30 minutes. If the baby is under 6 months old, pediatricians do not recommend walking in this weather and suggest replacing them with a short stay on the balcony or loggia.

When going on a winter walk with your child, it is very important to dress him for the weather. The child should not be hot or cold, clothes should not hinder movement. To protect you from the cold, several layers of clothing are needed, since the air gap retains heat well. Also, the baby will be protected from the cold by high-quality thermal underwear.

Some areas of the skin remain exposed, coming into direct contact with the frosty air. They require special protection - in particular, a protective cream must be applied to the child's face shortly before a walk. It is necessary to lubricate the skin with a cream no later than 30 minutes before leaving the house. During this time, the cream is absorbed, a protective film forms on the skin surface, and the moisture has time to evaporate without causing harm.

For these purposes, it is worth purchasing a special protective cream against chapping and frostbite, and in no case should you use a regular moisturizer instead. Moisturizers enhance the removal of moisture from the skin, which in frosty climates can seriously harm the baby. It is helpful to apply baby moisturizer to baby's skin before bedtime to soften it and restore moisture balance.
