Determination of pressure in children has its own characteristics. The value of blood pressure is influenced by eating shortly before measurement and physical activity. In addition, the standard cuff sizes of the tonometer may not fit.

Instructions

Step 1

Currently, experts give preference to measuring blood pressure using the Rivo-Rocchi apparatus, according to the Korotkov-Yanovsky method. In the process of measuring pressure in children, set the device so that the manometer with its zero division is at the level of the artery, at the same time, the artery should be at the same level with the heart. Put the cuff on the shoulder just above the elbow, so that a finger fits between the shoulder and the cuff. For babies, cuffs of appropriate sizes are needed, which vary depending on age in the range from 3, 5 - 7 cm, to 8, 5 - 15 cm. Adult cuffs are suitable for children over ten years old.

Step 2

Measure the child's blood pressure in the morning, right after sleep, or 15 minutes after the baby has rested. Before starting the study, sit or lay the child with the unbent upper limb, with the palm turned up so that the hand is at the same level with the heart. At a distance of 3 cm from the elbow, apply a cuff, while the clothing should not restrict the limb. After that, feel the pulse in the cubital fossa and attach the phonendoscope to this place. Then close the valve on the pear and pump air until the pulse disappears, then slowly release the air, listening through the phonendoscope to the heart tones and observing the scale. The first audible tone will indicate systolic pressure, and the second will indicate diastolic pressure.

Step 3

For half an hour before the procedure for measuring blood pressure, the child is not recommended to eat, and also to experience physical overstrain. In the room where the procedure is supposed to be carried out, it is necessary to maintain silence. Use an automatic tonometer to determine the pressure as soon as possible. The essence of the procedure is simple, sit the child on a chair with a back, bend your arm at the elbow at an angle of 80 degrees and place it on a flat surface. Put the electronic device on your wrist and then press the button. The tonometer performs all the necessary operations during which the child should not move or speak.
