Coughing is the body’s defense response to infection. With its help, dangerous microbes are expelled, which as a result do not enter the lungs. So a cough is, in a sense, even useful, but only wet. Dry and barking should be treated immediately, achieving the appearance of phlegm, especially if the child is coughing. But for different reasons for this phenomenon, and therapy should be different.
Instructions
Step 1
If a cough occurs against the background of ordinary bronchitis or tracheitis, it is usually dry. It is necessary to transfer it to productive, moist, to make it so that phlegm begins to form. First (the first few days), the baby should be given mucolytic drugs or mixed-action drugs, for example, lazolvan, ambrobene, bromhexine. Then, usually after 2-3 days, it is necessary to replace them with expectorants. When the child begins to cough up phlegm, it is better to cancel the medication: the cough will now go away on its own. If you continue to take expectorant drugs at this stage, they will provoke a cough on their own. Parents should only give the sick baby a chest massage, give him plenty of water, put mustard plasters, rubbing and hot foot baths.
Step 2
When a cough occurs as a result of viral pharyngitis, it is often frequent and dry, exhausting. In this case, inhalations with anti-inflammatory herbs (chamomile, sage, eucalyptus) and essential oils, even with regular baking soda, will help. It is necessary to carry out them at least 3 times a day, and at night give the child drugs that soothe the cough (mucaltin) so that he rests and does not wake up.
Step 3
If the cough does not go away for a long time and remains dry, barking, a thorough examination of the little patient should be carried out. And not only at the otolaryngologist, but also at the phthisiatrician and pulmanologist, to take a blood test. It happens. that the cause of cough is allergy, helminthic invasion, in the worst case - pneumonia and even tuberculosis. These problems should be resolved by specialists.
Step 4
A barking cough can also be a sign of obstructive bronchitis, whooping cough, and false croup. In all these cases, an urgent call to a doctor is required. Otherwise, everything may end sadly. The specialist will prescribe the necessary treatment, prescribe the appropriate medications and procedures. You yourself cannot cope with the infection without identifying the type of pathogen. Doctors will select the appropriate antibiotics and antibacterial agents.
