Baby stores offer many types of baby teats. Latex, silicone, round, beveled, with pimples, anti-colic - any young mother can get confused in the variety of proposals.
Instructions
Step 1
Pick up a feeding bottle. First of all, the nipple must match your bottle. Therefore, if you want to purchase a pacifier, remember or write down the name of the manufacturer of your bottle. If this is not possible, take the bottle with you to the store.
Step 2
Pay attention to the width of the bottle. Infant nipples vary in neck width. The most common types are standard neck and wide neck. A wide nipple is more physiological, because reminds a child of sucking on the mother's breast. Be careful: a standard neck nipple from one manufacturer may not match a standard bottle from another manufacturer, even if they look the same.
Step 3
Select the nipple material. Nipples are made from silicone or latex. Latex nipples are softer, easier to suck, and “remember” the smell of milk. Many babies enjoy this, especially those who have been breastfed for a long time. The advantages of silicone nipples are their durability and strength. They are easier to clean and do not deteriorate after repeated sterilization. It is difficult for a baby to chew through such a nipple, but it is harder for sucking.
Step 4
Pay attention to the special anti-colic pacifier if your baby has a tummy ache. Anti-colic nipples have special holes in the base. Thanks to the holes, a vacuum does not form in the bottle and the baby's mouth, air flows freely into the bottle, and it is easier for the baby to suck. The baby does not have to swallow air in order to normalize the pressure in the bottle - this reduces the risk of painful colic in the baby.
Step 5
Choose a pacifier according to your baby's age. There are nipples for newborns, nipples from 3 to 6 months, from 6 to 12 months, nipples from 12 to 18 months. If you are bottle feeding your baby with kefir or porridge, look for a special porridge teat or variable flow teat that allows you to adjust the flow rate depending on the thickness of the milk product.
Step 6
Special orthodontic nipples are designed to create a correct bite while sucking. Choose an orthodontic pacifier if your baby's first teeth erupted early or if someone in the family has a bad bite.
Step 7
Remember that for the correct organization of artificial feeding of the baby, you will need 2-3 identical nipples at the same time. The nipples must be sterilized before use and replaced every 3 months.
