During the long New Year's holidays, it is difficult for an adult to find something to do to brighten up his leisure time, and even more so, a child may get bored from endless TV shows, computer games and other idleness. Winter is the time to start teaching your child to read, if this has not been done before.
The issue of family reading has long ceased to be acute among Russian young families because of its complete absence, family reading. Unfortunately, many young mums and dads themselves grew up during the global decline in reading culture. The trend, growing exponentially, spreads to the next generation. The massive introduction of computer technologies into the entertainment and educational sector of family life cannot replace the place of the book in the upbringing of the culture of the individual. And learning in an educational institution for reading children is much easier, they do not have to correct quarter marks. At least the subjects of the humanitarian cycle will be given to the reading child playfully.
In addition to the purely utilitarian benefits of teaching a child to read, family reading will create an atmosphere of trust between parents and children.
What books to read to a child in winter
For the smallest children, acquaintance with the books can begin with the story of S. Maltsev's fairy tale "About Petya the Bunny". An ingenious story about anthropomorphic forest animals with human names, simple conflict situations that are resolved in the most successful way are understandable even for a three-year-old child.
On the eve of New Year's holidays, older children can start reading books on the relevant topic, which will undoubtedly enhance the pre-holiday mood.
There is a list of the best books based on New Year's adventures. The New Year mood is based on the expectation of magic, of course, and fairy tales should be magical. There are practically no folk tales about the New Year, but there are wonderful author's tales idealizing a rather inhospitable season:
- The Nutcracker, or the Mouse King by T. A. Hoffmann;
- Journey of the Blue Arrow by J. Rodari;
- "The Snow Queen" G.-H. Andersen;
- "Grandma Blizzard" by the Brothers Grimm;
- "Twelve months" S. Ya. Marshak and some others.
There is no New Year's plot in the wonderful story “Magic Winter” by the Finnish writer Tove Jansen, but there are no analogues in the world children's literature in terms of the degree of creating a fairy-tale mood.
And other stories about the Moomin-trolls living in the Moomin-House are a must-read for any family.
Reading books can be supplemented with story games with children, listening to music, you can even make Christmas tree decorations with your own hands based on the fairy tales you read. Spending time like this reading books together will not only brighten up long winter evenings, but also distract from computer addiction.
