Unemployed and drinking parents are a real tragedy for a child. Unfortunately, only a few manage to abstract themselves from the current situation and take independent steps towards a better future. Awareness of your situation and the search for ways out of it is one of the main conditions in order to survive in a dysfunctional family and get a chance to build a happy life.

Save yourself

Unfortunately, there are not many stories around when a teenager from a dysfunctional family manages to escape from the real hell that surrounds him. Too much works against the child in this situation: the inability to live independently and work fully, the lack of the right to defend oneself in court, the inability to cope with psychological pressure in the family. The younger the teenager, the worse the situation and the less chances of a happy outcome.

Often, children perceive the existing family model as the only correct one, fall under the influence of people from this circle, and are completely suppressed morally. However, if a child has an awareness that his family is dysfunctional, and he wants to live differently at all costs, this is almost a victory. Not succumbing to circumstances, setting a goal and going towards it - only a few are capable of this, but at the same time, it is precisely without such conscious control of the situation that a teenager may not succeed.

Find support

It is extremely difficult to cope with a difficult situation alone. The main thing is not to withdraw into yourself, not to be ashamed of your problems and to seek help on the side. Parents can no longer help you: this fact should simply be accepted. Talk to relatives, neighbors, teachers, or just acquaintances. In such a difficult situation, help can come from the most unexpected side.

Feel free to ask for help from complete strangers, for example, on an internet forum. There are many more kind adults around than you think. Absolutely strangers can help with valuable advice, warm clothes, delicious food.

Find public organizations (social, charitable) that will help you organize free leisure time, get the support of the social security authorities, and most importantly - psychological and moral assistance.

Strive to survive

Of course, a teenager, who, in fact, is still a child, can be overwhelmed with resentment and anger, because at his age there are so many temptations, interesting leisure, material values, and all this is inaccessible to him. Moreover, in a dysfunctional family there is no way to even satisfy the most basic needs, from normal food and warm clothes to silence and a calm atmosphere. It is on the latter that a child who lives with unemployed and drinking parents should concentrate. If you manage to find at least minimal financial assistance, give all your strength to study and possible part-time work: this will help you take important steps towards a better future.

It is up to you to decide whether to provide any support to alcoholic parents who have admitted such a situation. If your help is being abused, is it worth sacrificing yourself?

Consider the current situation as difficult and unpleasant, but still a temporary period from which you yourself are able to find a way out.
