The crying of newborn babies has one distinctive feature. A child can scream very shrilly, expressing his dissatisfaction in all ways, but he can do it absolutely without tears. During the first months of a baby's life, this situation is the norm.
Features of the body of a newborn
The body of a newborn baby is fully formed, but some processes begin to take place only after three months of age. A striking example in this case is the lacrimal glands. In the first month of life, a minimal amount of fluid is formed in the lacrimal canals, which is enough only to moisturize the eye. That is why a nursing baby does not have tears flowing down the cheeks while crying. Sometimes a child may feel fluid accumulation, but it is very difficult for him to explain the reason for his discomfort. The baby begins to loudly notify the parents about the problem, which is almost impossible to notice.
Real tears appear in babies between one and three months of age. During this period, there is no need to take special measures or seek medical help. When crying, try to provide the baby with maximum support and to calm him down mentally.
If you notice that a child's tears appear without crying, then be sure to contact a specialist. This may indicate a problem with the lacrimal canals.
In a fetus in the womb, the nasal region and the conjunctival cavity are separated by a special mucous plug. By the time of birth, the thin protective film begins to dissolve, and during the first months of life it disappears completely. Only then do the lacrimal glands begin to function normally.
The mucous membrane is a so-called barrier to tears, it allows only a minimal amount of liquid to pass through. Usually the film dissolves in the first weeks of life, but there are often cases when this happens a little later.
Cause for concern
If the child is already three months old, and tears do not appear during crying, then you should not leave this situation unattended. The cause of this condition can be a blockage of the lacrimal canals. In order for the mucous membrane to dissolve, it is necessary to take some measures.
If, after crying, the reddening of the corners of the eyes persists for a long time, then this may be a sign of infection. In this case, the kid must be shown to a specialist.
Please note that the absence of tears during crying should not be considered a disease. Only in rare cases, clogging of the lacrimal canals can be accompanied by the appearance of redness of the eyelids or pus in the corners of the eyes. To get rid of such a problem, specialists prescribe courses of treatment with special solutions for wiping the lacrimal canals.
If the absence of tears is not accompanied by visible complications, then regular washing of the child with chamomile infusion and light massage of the eyelids can be used as preventive measures. In the first months of life, a crying baby should be given special attention. Sometimes the blockage of the tear ducts may appear much later.
There are cases when mucous membranes form closer to six months. If chamomile infusion and eyelid massage do not bring the desired result, be sure to show the baby to a specialist. You may need a special course of treatment. Do not forget that your lightheadedness can have serious consequences for your child's health.
