The marriage procedure is carried out according to the laws of the country whose citizenship the newlyweds have. But what about those who decide to marry a foreign citizen? On this score, the law of Russia has some rules. If you decide to get married in Russia according to local laws, the following documents will be required.

Instructions

Step 1

Joint declaration of desire to marry. It is submitted to the registry office by both partners at the same time.

Step 2

Passport of a foreign citizen, as well as its photocopy. At the same time, the entire passport must be translated into Russian, the translation must be certified by a notary. You can also certify the correctness of the translation at the consulate of the state, the citizenship of which the foreigner has. If you choose the second option, then the Russian Foreign Ministry must confirm that the signature of the official who certified the translation of the passport is genuine.

Step 3

A foreigner must provide documents stating that he is not currently married, and there are no circumstances that prevent him from marrying a citizen of Russia. Confirmation is issued by the consulate or embassy of the country of which he is a citizen, or the body that deals with this on the territory of the foreigner's country. All documents must be translated into Russian, and the translations must be notarized.

Step 4

If a foreigner has ever been married before, then he must provide documents confirming the fact of the dissolution of the previous marriage (a court decision or a partner's death certificate is accepted as these documents).

Step 5

Russian visa, which confirms the legality of a foreign citizen's stay in Russia.

Step 6

Paid receipt of state duty (sometimes a receipt is not required, depending on the conditions of a particular registry office).

Step 7

If a foreigner has the citizenship of a country with which Russia has concluded an agreement on legal assistance and legal relations, then the list of documents becomes simpler. It is necessary to present a notarized translation into Russian of the documents that are needed for registration; there is no need to legalize the papers. A foreign citizen must present a certificate from the place of birth, which can be issued by the magistrate or church parish according to the dream of his birth.

Step 8

All documents issued to a foreign citizen by representatives of various institutions in his homeland must be "legalized", that is, translated into Russian and provided with an apostille. Apostille is a certification inscription stating that a document can be considered valid. All translations are notarized, unless otherwise permitted (a passport can be certified not by a notary, but by an official from the consulate of a foreign citizen). All apostilles are usually affixed by the Russian Foreign Ministry. A foreigner does not get a marriage stamp in his passport.
