The course of any infectious disease may require the appointment of antibacterial agents. There are not many antibiotics at the disposal of the pediatrician, the use of which is permitted from an early age of the child. One of the drugs of choice is Sumamed, a macrolide antibiotic with a wide spectrum of action.
Instructions
Step 1
In childhood, "Sumamed" is approved for use from 6 months in the form of a suspension. She has a fruity taste, which is very pleasant for children and does not cause them negative emotions. In addition, it is convenient to give "Sumamed" to a small child with a measuring spoon, which is attached to the medicine. Before starting to use the antibiotic, the dry substance must be diluted with boiled or distilled water, as indicated in the instructions, and before each use, do not forget to shake the contents of the bottle.
Step 2
Sumamed can be used for many infectious diseases. For children, the drug is mainly prescribed for infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract (otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, etc.) A feature of macrolide antibiotics, including Sumamed, is that they are active against intracellular pathogens, such as chlamydia and mycoplasma. In this regard, the appointment of "Sumamed" is justified in case of protracted and repeated bronchitis in children, tk. the causative agents of this group of diseases in young children are precisely intracellular microorganisms.
Step 3
The dosage of "Sumamed" is calculated based on the baby's body weight: 10 mg per kilogram of weight.
For example, if the weight of the child is 15 kg, then the doctor will prescribe 150 mg of the drug per day. One measuring spoon or syringe for dosing (i.e. 5 ml of suspension) contains 100 mg of the drug. This means that the mother should give the child 1, 5 tablespoons (7.5 ml) of medicine at one time.
Step 4
"Sumamed" is taken once a day, the duration of treatment is three days. In severe and protracted forms of the disease, the doctor may extend the course of treatment up to 5 days.
Step 5
It is important to remember that the drug must be given one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal. It is advisable that the child washed down the medicine with water or tea, so it will finally be washed off the mucous membranes and will not remain in the oral cavity.
Step 6
Since antibiotics can adversely affect the state of the intestinal microflora, leading to the suppression of the growth of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, it is recommended to give probiotics (Linex, Bifiform, etc.) to the child while taking Sumamed. In general, the course of treatment with probiotics should be at least 3-4 weeks.
