Sumamed is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug. It effectively fights diseases of the ENT organs and genitourinary organs, respiratory tract diseases, inflammation of the skin and joints, as well as severe combined infections. Its advantage lies in the fact that it is taken only once a day, which is very convenient, especially for young children who are difficult to persuade to drink the medicine.
Instructions
Step 1
In pediatric practice, the medicine can be used when the child's weight approaches 10 kg. On average, this happens a year, but large children reach this mark earlier. Sumamed in suspension is more suitable for babies, pills are preferable for older children.
Step 2
In order to prepare a suspension, you need to add boiled, or better distilled, water to the bottle with the powder. To maintain the accuracy of the dilution, it is better to use a syringe. In a bottle containing 400 mg of active ingredient (or 17 g of powder), 12 mg of water is poured. After that, the vial is shaken well so that the drug is completely dissolved. If the instructions are followed, 23 ml of the medicine should be obtained, and this is enough for the course of treatment for a child weighing up to 13 kg. 5 ml (measuring spoon) of the suspension contains 100 mg of the active ingredient.
Step 3
The dosage of the drug is calculated based on the weight of the baby. For infections of the lower and upper respiratory tract, pediatricians prescribe 10 mg / kg, i.e. a child who weighs 10 kg will need to drink one scoop of the medicine. For final recovery, the drug is taken within 3 days, but its effect continues for several more days.
Step 4
Sumamed-forte is recommended for large children. The principle of preparing the suspension remains the same, only the proportions change. Add 12 ml of water to a vial containing 800 mg of active ingredient. And in a bottle with 1200 mg of the drug - 18 ml. In both cases, the measuring spoon will contain 200 mg of the drug, the differences will only be in the amount of the suspension obtained.
Step 5
Children who weigh 12.5 kg or more can use 125 mg tablets instead of a suspension. But this option is only suitable for those babies who can swallow them. If you are unsure if your child can handle this, it is best to offer the liquid form of the medication.
Step 6
The suspension is taken once a day, two hours after a meal or one hour before it. The pill can be taken at any time of the day, this will not affect the effectiveness of the treatment.
