Activated charcoal is in the medicine cabinet of almost every family, because it is he who helps both adults and children in cases of poisoning and in many infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Despite the fact that activated charcoal is a safe drug, before giving it to a child, consult a pediatrician or call an ambulance service to clarify the dosage.
It is necessary
- - Activated carbon;
- - boiled water.
Instructions
Step 1
The drug in tablets or in the form of an aqueous suspension is taken orally. The dosage of activated charcoal depends on the weight and age of the child. To prepare the suspension, dissolve the required number of charcoal tablets in half a glass of water. For children, activated carbon is prescribed at the rate of 0.05 g per kilogram of body weight, taken 3 times a day. The maximum single dose is up to 0.2 mg for each kilogram of the child's body weight. The course of treatment for acute diseases is from 3 to 5 days, up to 14 days - for allergies and chronic diseases. On the recommendation of your doctor, you can repeat the course in two weeks.
Step 2
In cases of acute poisoning, give the child a gastric lavage using an aqueous suspension of activated charcoal, then give 20-30 g of charcoal inside. With flatulence and digestive disorders, give coal 3-4 times a day for 1-2 g. The course of treatment in this case is from 3 to 7 days.
Step 3
Remember that pills come in different weights. For very young children, you can buy activated charcoal in the form of granules, paste or powder - this medicine dissolves better in water.
Step 4
Please note that at least two hours should elapse between the intake of activated charcoal and the intake of food or other medications. Otherwise, activated carbon, interacting with drugs, will reduce their absorption and the effectiveness of treatment.
Step 5
If you do not notice that your child is feeling better after taking activated charcoal, call an ambulance.
