It is often difficult for an expectant mother to collect a bag at the hospital. What should I take with me? How much? Nevertheless, by the time of delivery, it is necessary to add up everything necessary for both the maternity hospital and for discharge. Among other things, be sure to take diapers for the newborn.
Delivery room
Before giving birth, you need to prepare several bags with things. One such bag will come in handy in the hospital right away - in the delivery ward. The first diaper on the baby is fastened almost immediately after giving birth.
But it should be borne in mind that usually a bag with things either stands in the delivery room, or is in a specially designated locker. Therefore, it is not necessary to take huge packages of things to the maternity ward. And packs of diapers take up a lot of space and weigh a lot too. If you have too large bags, the nurse in the emergency room, when you arrive to give birth, may even ask you to unload the bags and give some of the things to your husband.
The best option is to put only a few diapers in the first bag for the maternity hospital: two or three will be enough. With the usual course of childbirth and the postpartum period, a young mother with a baby is in the delivery room for no more than 6-8 hours. Three diapers will be enough there. And if you stay there longer, you can ask your husband to bring more diapers.
In any case, you don't need to take a whole pack of diapers to the maternity ward. Save the hospital staff from dragging your heavy bags when transferring you to the postpartum ward.
Postpartum department
In the postpartum ward, the number of diapers required increases many times over. The baby begins to eat colostrum, respectively, the work of the intestines starts, and stools appear. And it is imperative to change the diaper after every chair.
To find your way around, we can assume that the diaper has to be changed on average every 2-3 hours. Based on this calculation, one small pack of diapers should be enough for you for all three days in the hospital. Usually in one such package there are about 20-30 pieces of diapers, the quantity is slightly different for different manufacturers.
In addition, diaper samples of different brands are often distributed in maternity hospitals. This is done for advertising purposes. Accordingly, the number of diapers that you have to bring from home will noticeably decrease in this case.
If the diapers run out on the eve of the discharge itself, you may well ask your roommates for a couple of them.
But before giving birth, you still need to buy several packs of diapers. First, it will be helpful for your husband to have an example of packaging that he will have to buy. Indeed, immediately after childbirth, it is he who will most often go to the store. Secondly, if you need more diapers in the maternity hospital than one pack, your husband will not have to go to the store, he can just take the necessary number of diapers at home and bring it to you.
