There are many family traditions. Some of them are very similar for the most part, but there are also very unique cases, sometimes criticized and publicly condemned. However, without them this or that family would not be what it is.
Everything is like everyone else
As a rule, in many families it is considered a tradition to get together for the birthdays of close relatives and organize a festive feast on this occasion. A similar situation applies to the New Year, birth of a child, weddings, housewarming and other significant dates. For example, in the families of veterans of the Great Patriotic War on May 9, all relatives gather and honor the heroes.
A number of families still have a tradition to read bedtime stories to their young children or sing lullabies. In addition, there is a tradition of punishing and rewarding the younger generation. Surely, many will remember that the most famous methods of punishment in Soviet times was to put a child in a corner or beat him with a belt.
There are families where the morning begins with wishing a good day, and going to bed is accompanied by the phrase "Good night!" In some families, there is still a tradition to discuss all important issues at a family council, where everyone has the right to vote or at least the opportunity to express their own point of view.
In most families, parents try to develop their children in every possible way, so it is becoming a good tradition to travel together or attend various cultural events, theaters, cinema, exhibitions and art galleries.
Strange family traditions
In Korea, some families need to chomp loudly during a meal to show the hosts that the food is delicious. And in the United States, there are families all of whom get together for Christmas and traditionally wear knitted red sweaters. Sometimes such products are complemented by a deer print.
Ireland also has a curious New Year tradition. Some deliberately leave their doors open on December 31st. So any stranger can come to them and count on dinner, moreover, they will treat him like an honored guest. And the very next day, all families celebrate the holiday with close relatives.
Wedding family traditions in different countries are very interesting. If for many Eastern peoples "bride kidnapping" is considered an indispensable ritual, then in Kenya, for example, when a girl leaves her father's house with her husband, it is quite natural for her father to spit on her chest and head. So he blesses the newlyweds for a long and happy life together.
And in Germany, it is believed that newlyweds should start a life together surrounded by new things, so the dishes after the wedding feast are not washed, but broken. As they say, who is in what is much.
