Spring and summer is the time to launch homemade boats in rivers and lakes. Surely your children have already made different boats, ships and ships out of paper. This time we offer you to make a real miniature raft with a sail together with your child.
Necessary
- - five reeds 90 cm long or the same twigs of any thickness, cleaned of bark
- - thick white threads
- - 14x15 cm of white or brown paper tissue (from an old shirt)
- - a glass of strong cold tea
- - cardboard box
- - potato
- - brown oil paint
- - plasticine
- - ruler
- - boot knife
- - scissors
- - Scotch
- - thick needle
- - paint brush
- - polystyrene film
- - varnish
Instructions
Step 1
From the thin end of the reed, cut two 15 cm pieces and set them aside. Cut another 20 15 cm pieces.
Step 2
Cut the lid off the cardboard box. On the sides, mark and cut along an 8 mm wide slot ending 25 mm from the bottom.
Step 3
Place a reed in the gap. Fold a 1m thread. Wrap it twice around one end as shown. Tighten the double knot. Repeat on the other end.
Step 4
Insert the second reed. Tie it to the first with double knots. Add the remaining 18 in the same way. Remove from the slot.
Step 5
On top of the threads, glue two transverse reeds 18 cm long with tape. Tie the ends with a "figure eight" thread, folded in half, as shown in the figure.
Step 6
Remove the tape. Sew on the crossbar with the threads stretched between the two reeds. Tie in a knot. Repeat on the other side.
Step 7
Repeat step 6 between reeds 5 and 6, 15 and 16 on both sides of the raft. They are shown in red in the figure.
Step 8
Cut a reed 20 cm long for the mast. Sharpen the thin end of it. Insert firmly between the two medium reeds. Stand upright.
Step 9
Tie a string to one corner of the raft. Wrap it around the mast 2 cm below the top. Tie a knot. Repeat for other corners. Glue according to the picture.
Step 10
Put the future sail in strong tea. When colored, dry. Stamp the potato half. Dip it in paint and stamp on the sail.
Step 11
Wrap the ends of the sail around two reeds that have been set aside. Sew with large stitches. Make a slot at the top of the mast.
Step 12
Tape the sail along the reeds of the raft. Tie a string to one end of the yarn and pull it through the slit. Tie to the other end of the yarn.
Step 13
Remove the tape. Draw the threads from the ends of the bottom yarn to the back corners of the raft. Dye all the threads with cold tea.
Step 14
Launch your raft. If it sits too deep, use a polystyrene wrap. The raft will hold it in place.
