By the position of the baby in the abdomen, the doctor can judge the need for surgical intervention during childbirth. For example, if the baby lies with his feet down, then labor will be somewhat complicated, and the services of qualified specialists with vast experience may be needed.
From about 32 weeks, the fetus begins to rotate in order to subsequently assume a particular position in the womb. In some patients, an ultrasound scan reveals an incorrect presentation of the child, but it should be recalled that the baby can roll over to any place.
Method for determining the position of the fetus yourself
In order to find out the location of the fetus, it is recommended to closely observe the tremors. It is necessary to take the position "lying on your back", relax and try to gently grope for the child.
Where strong tremors are felt, the baby's legs are located. You can try to find your heels. Slight movements indicate that it is in this place that the child's hands are located.
When the fetus is turned upside down, its legs are under the mother's ribs. Often, pregnant women mistake the bulges for the baby's head, but this is most likely his buttocks. Since the fetus in the early stages cannot yet take a stable position, it is better to determine its place closer to childbirth.
How can a child be positioned
The correct position of the fetus is cephalic presentation, that is, when the baby's head passes the small pelvis of the mother and gradually moves along the birth canal. It is in this case that the baby has every chance of being born easily and quickly.
With breech presentation, doctors must take into account many factors, for example, the age of the woman in labor, the expected weight and height of the child, and the position of his head. In the overwhelming majority of cases, experts strongly recommend performing a caesarean section to reduce the risk of possible injuries during routine obstetrics. However, when a woman's pelvis is wide enough, it is easy to give birth naturally.
If the fetus lies obliquely or across, it is considered that the birth will be difficult. To facilitate the process and reduce injuries, a caesarean section is performed.
To correct the position of the fetus, obstetricians-gynecologists advise pregnant women to do special gymnastics every day. It should be done starting at 24 weeks of gestation. The main exercises include the following:
- lie on a hard surface at the beginning on one side and then on the other side. You need to turn over every 10 minutes 5-6 times;
- raise your legs up, rest them against the wall, raise your pelvis with a pillow. Lie for half an hour three times a day;
- stand on all fours for 15-20 minutes, 3 times a day.
In order for the child, who has already taken the correct position, not to change it, some gynecologists advise wearing a special bandage.
