The duration of lactation largely depends on the diet, work and rest of the nursing mother. And in order to maintain the production of breast milk for the entire expected period of feeding, which is about one year, it is worth adhering to the same living conditions, namely, to eat right and maintain physical and emotional balance.
Instructions
Step 1
Observe the same daily regimen, feeding your baby and your diet throughout the entire period of breastfeeding. This affects the duration of lactation, which can change with changing living conditions.
Step 2
Eat a nutritious and varied diet. Be sure to include meat, eggs, fish in your diet. They are a source of protein for the formation of breast milk. Eat daily lactic acid products - a source of fats, proteins and calcium, as well as cereals, gray bread, vegetables and fruits - a source of energy, vitamins and minerals. This diet is essential for the quantity and quality of breast milk.
Step 3
Take food 4-5 times a day and only freshly prepared. However, don't overeat. This is just as detrimental to lactation as malnutrition.
Step 4
Drink as much as you want, but not less than 1-1.5 liters per day. Excessive fluid intake is not able to increase or prolong lactation. Also, do not consume large amounts of milk (more than 0.5 liters per day). In the future, it may cause the baby to become immune to cow's milk protein.
Step 5
Feed your baby at about the same time. This promotes reflex milk production at a specific hour. If it is not enough for the next feed, pump your breasts not only after feeds, but also between feeds.
Step 6
Express your breasts after each feed and between feeds for up to 6 months, while your baby's diet is not yet full of complementary foods. From 6 months, when two complementary foods replace two breastfeeds, pump only instead of the intended breastfeeds. This will prevent stagnation of milk in the ducts of the mammary gland, increase its amount for the next breastfeeding, and will prolong lactation for the entire period of breastfeeding.
Step 7
From the second half of the year, do not express your breasts between feedings, but closer to the year and after it. Prepare your breasts gradually to produce less milk so that stopping breastfeeding is quick and less painful.
