Step 1
According to statistics, about 80% of brides prefer to take their husband's surname, about 15% remain with their surname, and all the remaining girls take two surnames at once. The opposite also happens when a husband takes his wife's surname, but this happens very rarely. The legislation of the Russian Federation allows both options, the choice depends only on the spouses.
Step 2
To change the surname, the bride will need to write about this in the application that she will submit to the registry office together with her groom before the wedding. On the day of the wedding, the girl will receive a stamp in her passport, according to which she will have to change the document within the next month. The new surname of the bride will be written in the document certifying the marriage.
Step 3
After the girl officially changed her last name, she will have to update a number of documents. Among them are not only the passport of the Russian Federation, but also the international passport, the latter, however, can be changed for a long time. To change a Russian document, you will need to provide a marriage certificate to the passport office and pay a state fee.
Step 4
The list of documents that must be updated also includes a compulsory medical insurance policy, TIN (changes in the tax office at the place of residence), driver's license, and pension certificate. A separate item is the exchange of bank documents, which takes a long time. In the event that the young spouse is a student, she will have to write a corresponding statement at the dean's office of her faculty, after which her new surname will appear on the student card and record book.

If the bride is one of the founders of a commercial enterprise (any legal entity) or an individual entrepreneur, she will have to change documents in a short time. Notaries recommend updating the documents for the car and real estate immediately after changing the name in order to avoid problems in the future. The only documents that do not need to be replaced are a diploma of education and a work book.
