Pediatricians prescribe vitamin D to almost every baby, especially to children born in the autumn-winter period. This measure is needed to prevent and treat rickets. It is necessary to give the child a vitamin solution at a certain time of the day and strictly in the dosage indicated by the doctor.

Instructions

Step 1

Vitamin D is vital for the body, but it is produced only during exposure to the sun. An older child will be able to get it from food - liver, seafood, cottage cheese and cheese. But for a baby, especially in the autumn-winter period, an alternative source of vitamin D is needed. Otherwise, the exchange of calcium and phosphorus will be disturbed in a rapidly growing organism, deformation of bones or negative changes in the work of many organs and systems will begin.

Step 2

A solution of vitamin D can be given to a baby during the entire autumn-winter period - in the months in the name of which there is the letter "P". However, if your doctor has prescribed you not a prophylactic, but a therapeutic dose of the vitamin, take a week break after each month of intake.

Step 3

There are two types of vitamins sold in pharmacies - oil solution D2 and water solution D3. Usually, pediatricians advise to give preference to an aqueous solution - it is not as toxic as an oil solution, it is easier for children to tolerate, and is well absorbed. And also D3 stimulates the production of its own provitamin D.

Step 4

It is advisable to give your baby vitamin D in the morning. After or during a meal, drop 1 or 2 drops into a spoon - depending on the doctor's prescription, add water and give the child a drink. If your baby is on infant formula, do not forget to tell the pediatrician about it. Breastmilk substitutes usually have some vitamin D already in them - your doctor will take this into account when calculating the dose you need for your baby.

Step 5

If the dose is small, or if you forget to give your child vitamin D at all, the baby is likely to develop rickets. Pediatricians admit that, to one degree or another, this disease occurs in almost all children under one year old. If rickets are diagnosed in time and treated, all symptoms will disappear without a trace. The disease is treated with vitamin D in combination with other drugs. Remember not to give this drug without talking to your doctor and testing for calcium and phosphorus in your blood.
