Creon (commonly accepted international name "pancreatin") is a digestive agent that replenishes the deficiency of pancreatic enzymes. The pancreatic enzymes included in the composition (lipase, alpha-amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) promote the breakdown of proteins to amino acids, fats to glycerol and fatty acids, starch to dextrins and monosaccharides, improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, and normalizes digestion processes. Recently, pediatricians are increasingly prescribing this remedy even for infants. In what doses should it be given to babies?
Instructions
Step 1
Be sure to check the dosage of the drug. Some sources indicate that the maximum daily dose in children under the age of one and a half years is 50 thousand units, while others emphasize that the dose in no case should exceed 10 thousand. Do not be lazy and do not hesitate to ask the doctor clarifying questions.
Step 2
Creon is released in the form of capsules, which must be swallowed and immediately washed down with plenty of liquid. But, naturally, for a small child it is both difficult and simply dangerous (the capsule can get into the windpipe). Be sure to ask your doctor about what other way of taking the medicine is possible. For example, stir the contents of the capsules into complementary foods to be eaten immediately by the baby or expressed breast milk.
Step 3
Remember that Creon has its own contraindications. Therefore, when taking this drug, try to show the child to the attending physician more often. Especially if there are side effects: diarrhea, nausea, skin reactions. In these cases, the drug should be discontinued before consulting a doctor.
Step 4
When purchasing Creon for a child, pay attention to the expiration date. Try to buy with a recent release date. Since the enzyme activity decreases over time, and the drug may lose its effectiveness.
