In the old days, a girl could not get married without parental consent. Most families today do not have such strict restrictions. Nevertheless, it is considered good form and a sign of respect when a young man asks for the hand of his bride from her father and mother. In order to conduct this ceremony correctly, it is advisable to know several customs and traditions that our ancestors still adhered to.
Instructions
Step 1
Set a day on which you will come with the girl to her parents. Matchmaking or petitioning the bride's hand should not be spontaneous. The family will have time to prepare the festive table, and you will have time to make all the necessary purchases.
Step 2
Do not come empty-handed to matchmaking. Traditionally, the groom brings the future mother-in-law a bouquet of flowers, and the future father-in-law - expensive strong alcohol, brandy or whiskey will do. It is also better to buy an engagement ring in advance and take it with you.
Step 3
When everyone is seated at the table, stand up and ask for the floor. Refer to your girlfriend's parents by their patronymic names. Say that you love their daughter and ask for her hand in marriage. If the answer is yes, take out the ring and put it on the bride's finger.
Step 4
If the bride's parents don't know you very well yet, be prepared to answer many questions. For example, where will you live after the wedding, who are your parents, how are you going to provide for your wife, do you think about children.
