An amazing bird, the penguin, lives on the earth. He is the only one who cannot fly, can walk on two legs and swim in water. An interesting and original costume for a child or an adult for any carnival or holiday can be a penguin costume.
Required materials for the costume
You can sew an outfit in just a couple of days, giving it several hours a day. On the first day, you need to go to a fabric store, handicraft and buy everything you need.
In order to sew a penguin costume, you need the following materials and tools:
- fabric in black and white, 1-2 meters (depending on the height of the wearer of the suit);
- fabric in yellow or orange color, 25-50 cm;
- long zipper.
As well as scissors, threads, tailor's chalk, tape measure and a sewing machine. The penguin costume consists of a black and white jumpsuit, wings and a hat.
Pattern
Cutting out the details of the costume is as follows:
The most convenient option to cut out a jumpsuit: you need to take a T-shirt and pants of the person to whom the suit is intended. Having connected them at the waist, put on black fabric and trace around the contour with chalk, add 2 cm to the allowances. This will be the back of the jumpsuit. The front will be white with a zipper in the middle. Having folded the white fabric in half, put a finished black pattern on it, also folded vertically, circle it and add 2 cm along the front edge, there will be a zipper here.
The wings will also be black and white. Having measured the length of the arms, you need to outline the required width on the fabric and cut out 2 pieces of white and black.
For a hat pattern, you will need a ready-made hat. Lay on and cut two pieces out of black fabric. Not forgetting about the 2 cm allowance. Cut out a triangle for the beak, cuffs for the legs, 2 circles with a diameter of 3 cm in black and 2 circles with a diameter of 4 cm in white from the orange fabric.
Suit sewing process
First, you should sew a zipper on the front of the overalls, connect to the back. You can process the neckline and armholes with a black bias tape. Sew orange cuffs on each leg, tuck.
Then you need to connect the black and white wings, turn out and sew to the shoulders of the jumpsuit, with the white side inward.
The next step is to connect the cuts of the cap, twist and sew the beak and eyes.
For the holiday, you also need to prepare a white turtleneck, a bow tie (or make a tie from a piece of black fabric: cut a rectangle 10x7 cm, pull it in the middle, sew a black elastic band).
You can wear neat black boots on your feet, or make orange penguin pads. Cut out a “paw” from the orange fabric, attach an elastic band to it, then put on the pads on the legs, over the shoes.
