Step 1
Choose a feeding position that is comfortable for you and your baby. You can feed while lying down, but it is often more convenient to do it while sitting. Support the baby with a hand that can be used for a pillow or roller. In this case, you do not have to strain, keeping your hand in the air for a long time. It is also possible to sit on a low chair so that the hand holding the child rests on its own bent knees. The child himself must be held so that his neck does not bend and is level with his head. Make sure that your baby's hands do not get in the way of your feeding.
Step 2
Prepare the nipple. It is recommended to moisten it with breast milk. There is no consensus on whether to wash your breasts just before the process or not. But the prevailing point of view is that it is enough for the mother to observe daily hygiene, as well as before pregnancy and childbirth, and special breast disinfection can only damage the nipples.
Step 3
Give your baby a breast. To do this, bring the nipple to his mouth, touching the lips, provoke the opening of the mouth, and then bring the baby closer to the breast. Make sure that not only the nipple itself, but also the areola is in his mouth. This will increase milk flow and also minimize possible breastfeeding injuries. If necessary, help your baby by gently squeezing the breast.
Step 4
Make sure your baby can breathe freely when feeding. To do this, do not press his nose close to his chest, allowing him to receive oxygen normally.
