The primary processing and ligation of the umbilical cord is performed immediately after the baby is born. The obstetrician applies two sterile clamps at a distance of ten and two centimeters from the umbilical ring, then processes the umbilical cord between the clamps and crosses with sterile scissors. At this point, an umbilical residue remains, which dries up and disappears after about five days.
It is necessary
- - brilliant green;
- - hydrogen peroxide;
- - cotton swabs;
- - cotton balls.
Instructions
Step 1
By the time the mother and child are discharged from the hospital, as a rule, the umbilical cord is no longer there, but there is only an umbilical wound, which requires careful care. Care must be taken to keep this area dry and clean at all times. To reduce the risk of infection of the umbilical wound and the development of umbilical sepsis, the umbilical wound should be treated twice a day.
Step 2
To prevent the baby from having problems with the healing of the navel, the umbilical wound should be properly treated. To do this, prepare everything you need and wash your hands thoroughly.
Step 3
Using your index finger and thumb, grab the skin around your navel and open the wound slightly. Moisten a cotton swab with hydrogen peroxide and work the wound from the center to the outer edges, gently removing the discharge from the wound.
Step 4
Use a dabbing motion to dry the wound with a sterile cotton ball. If necessary, blot the navel several times, each time changing the cotton wool to a new one.
Step 5
Now treat the navel with a solution of one of the antiseptics. But it is worth noting that brilliant green causes weeping, and potassium permanganate dries. Therefore, it is better to process it with potassium permanganate.
Step 6
It is necessary to process the navel until the umbilical wound heals and there are no blood, serous discharge or crusts, and foam will not form during treatment with peroxide.
Step 7
Usually the navel heals by the end of the second week and at the same time the cutaneous umbilical ring shrinks.
Step 8
The healing process can be delayed if the navel becomes wet and the baby is constantly in a diaper or clothes that are too tightly in contact with the umbilical wound area and press on the skin.
Step 9
The shape of the navel, by the way, does not depend on the skill of the one who cut it, but depends solely on the individuality of the child. It happens that a newborn's navel protrudes. There is nothing wrong with this, and usually passes by the end of the first year of life. But if this bothers you a lot, try putting the baby on his stomach more often.
