The christening of a child is called "the second birth" because it is a very important event in the life of an Orthodox family. At the same time, this is a very responsible and troublesome event for parents. It is very important to prepare for it in advance, invite godparents, relatives, collect baptismal accessories for the child, and dress him appropriately.

It is necessary

A large towel, a sheet, a baptismal shirt, a hat or scarf for a girl, panties or disposable diapers, socks

Instructions

Step 1

If the christening takes place in the warm season, there should be no problems with clothes for the baby. You can put on a cotton suit for a boy or a light dress for a girl, not forgetting about a scarf or a panama hat. It is very important to choose clothes with simple fasteners or without them at all, since during the christening it will be necessary to quickly remove the clothes from the child. If it is very small, prepare a diaper to place on a special dressing table. The baby spends most of the ceremony naked or in one diaper.

Step 2

If the child is going to be baptized in winter, prepare a warm, easy-to-open suit, cotton and woolen socks and a hat. Clothes are taken off at the beginning of the christening, and before lowering into the font, the child spends time in the arms of one of the godparents naked. You can put on socks and wrap him in a warm towel or blanket.

Step 3

After bathing, the child must be quickly wiped off, and the priest will dress him in a shirt prepared in advance from the baptismal set - as a rule, it includes a sheet, a baptismal shirt and a bonnet. You can choose a set yourself or assign this responsibility to one of the godparents. Socks are usually not included in christening sets. Also, don't forget to prepare a baptismal towel in advance and bring a pair of diapers and two or three disposable diapers.
