The baptism of a baby is a great sacrament through which the children of believing parents must go. But, unfortunately, few parents know how to properly prepare for this important event in the life of a child who will soon come under the protection of the Lord.
Necessary
- - baptismal set;
- - towel;
- - cross;
- - the documents.
Instructions
Step 1
The first step is to choose a church where the solemn ceremony will take place. Visit this sacred place, find out from the ministers everything about the ceremony, stipulate the time of the ceremony. Preparation for christening includes another important factor - the choice of godparents who will participate in the ceremony and take responsibility before God for the godson. These should be people who believe in the Lord and attend church. The key to a long and close relationship with the godson is blood ties with parents.
Step 2
For baptism, you need to prepare a new white undershirt for the child with beautiful embroidery (you can buy a special set for baptism). If the child is older, then dress in such a way that you can easily open the feet, chest and hands for anointing if necessary. The godparents give their godson a memorable gift - a pectoral cross, which should hang on his chest for the rest of his life. Earlier, the tradition of Orthodoxy disposed to the fact that the godmother prepared an outfit for the child, and the godfather gave a cross.
Step 3
Godparents should prepare for the ceremony, go to church for services, and pray. Communion and confession of godparents are required. The godparents must know the prayer "Symbol of Faith" by heart, during the triumph they will renounce Satan instead of a baby, take a vow of union with Christ forever. In the future, the godparents need to pray for their wards, tell them about the Lord and the church. Wear or lead to holy communion in the temple.
Step 4
Before going to church, prepare everything you need so as not to forget anything in a hurry: documents, a large towel (to wrap the child after dipping into a font with holy water), a consecrated cross, a baptismal dress. It is recommended to bathe at home before the baptism ceremony, to put on everything clean. Parents and godparents must have a pectoral cross with them. Women should have covered shoulders, chest and knees. You should put on a skirt, tie a scarf on your head.
Step 5
After the completion of the great sacrament, guests are invited home. On this great day, relatives and close people gather at the table, the hostess serves a sweet cake with the child's initials or the date of christening. Traditionally, punch or mulled wine was drunk at christenings; Cahors can be served. Guests invited to christening can donate an icon, a small icon or a silver spoon. Any gift should be presented with an open mind and from a pure heart.
