The proliferation of television has made it a widely available medium of information, education and entertainment. Until recently, watching TV was a family affair. Each new viewing of the film gave food for debate and reflection.

Children and parents were looking forward to the next episode. And the announcers and presenters were true heroes. Over the years, the role of television and its quality have changed.

And unfortunately, these changes are not always favorable.

The value of television to the modern family

In the modern family, television has become the background of everyday life, a routine event. Due to its powerful emotional and informative influence, television becomes a source of problems associated with addiction to advertising, from the stereotypes of behavior and thoughts imposed on us.

What are the signs of television addiction:

  • you spend more than 4 hours a day at the blue screen,
  • you feel a lack of something, are annoyed if you cannot watch TV,
  • you easily give up your usual activities and hobbies for the sake of watching TV,
  • you have an uncontrollable urge to buy products advertised on TV,
  • you solve problems from everyday life, based on examples from the TV series you watched.
  • your criticality in relation to television programs is reduced or absent, you believe that everything that is shown from the blue screen is the true truth.

How important is television in a child's life?

Our children grow up to the sound of TV. Its effects on their developing brain and vision are irreversible. Numerous studies of scientists have proved that a child watches TV and perceives it as a means of knowing the world, not distinguishing between fiction and reality.

In order not to harm the development of the child, limit the viewing of programs to no more than 10-15 minutes a day. Monitor closely what your son or daughter is watching.

Remember that if your baby spends more than 4 hours a day at the blue screen, then he may have the following problems:

  • decreased visual acuity,
  • increased risk of obesity due to a sedentary lifestyle,
  • decreased ability to concentrate while learning,
  • increasing the level of aggression towards their peers,
  • hyperexcitability and poor sleep,
  • unnecessary fears and neuroses due to the gone scenes of violence.

How to deal with TV addiction:

The simplest and most effective remedy for television addiction is to limit the viewing time. Don't replace your life with the life of TV characters. Leave the house and feel the beauty of the world around you. Take your children with you, show them the true world and life and be sure to explain that there are two types of fairy tales: one for the little ones - these are cartoons and films for children, and there are fairy tales for adults - they are called movies. Do not forget that nothing can replace live human communication.
